Shellfish is a cluster word: shrimp, crab, lobster, clams, oysters, mussels. Schools do not always give one ruling for the whole cluster. That is why a Hanafi answer and a Maliki answer can both be 'correct' inside their own usul.
Preparation still matters. If the kitchen fries shrimp in the same oil as bacon, the fish ruling does not save the plate.

Water-game is lawful by the Qur'an, whether taken alive or found dead in the sea. That is why a shrimp or crab does not need the land-animal slaughter rules. If your only doubt is 'it looks unusual', that is not evidence of a ban.
