Is dating halal?

Romantic dating as boyfriend and girlfriend is haram in all five schools. Private mixed outings, secret chatting, touching, and seclusion (khalwa) are forbidden because they lead toward zina. Wanting to marry someone is not a sin. The lawful path is a proposal through the wali, modest conversation for that purpose, and a nikah — not a dating relationship.
